Common
Gateway Interface provides the ability for the client browser to interact
with the Web Site. CGI is often used for On-line shopping or Databases.
Contact
Page
A page that provides a concise listing of how visitors can contact
you. Typically contains full postal address, Telephone numbers, Facsimile
number, e-mail address and hours of business.
E-mail
An electronic version of sending a letter. An E-mail account must
be set up with an Internet Service provider (Havard Associates can provide
a list of ISPs). The ISP will provide you with the ability to send and
receive E-mail messages. You will require a computer with a link to the
Internet and Windows 95 or higher.
Extensive
Search Engine Service
On all Web Site design and authoring Havard Associates will add
the site to the top 10 Internet search engines free of charge. For a small
additional fee paid yearly in advance your site will be added to up to
400 search engines and directories. Every six months the status of your
entries will be checked and your site will be resubmitted if necessary.
Form
to E-mail
An electronic form that customers can complete requesting further
information, to be contacted etc. This feature requires that you have
an E-mail account and access to collect messages.
GIF
Graphics Independent Format, an image that can be placed on the Web
Page like a company logo. GIFs can be animated to attract attention.
Guest
Book
A form enabling a visitor to your site to leave their e-mail address
and/or postal address to be added to your mailing list.
Home
Page
Home Page The first page visitors to your Web Site will see. This
page typically contains a company logo, brief overview of what your company
provides and links to other pages in your Web Site.
HTML
Hyper Text Markup Language, is a standard that Web Sites are authored
in. HTML controls how information is displayed and behaves.
Java
Small programs that are downloaded and run on the client. These
programs often perform validation of information entered by the client
or run programs too big to run across a modem.
JavaScript
A set of instructions imbedded into the HTML of a Web Page to
control images and text.
JPEG
Acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group, an industry committee
that developed a compression standard for still images. JPEG refers to
the graphics file format that uses this compression standard. JPEG is
often used when displaying photographic images.
Link
Generally refers to any highlighted words or graphic in an HTML
document that allow you to "jump" to another section of the same document
or to another document on the World Wide Web.
Modem
Device that connects your computer to the Internet to view Web Sites
(called Surfing) or send and receive E-mail messages.
Scanning
Taking paper based items such as logos from letterheads or pictures
from brochures and converting them into electronic format that can be
used on a Web Page.
SSL
Secure Socket Layer is a protocol for securing data transmission in
commercial transactions on the Internet. Using public-key cryptography,
SSL provides server authentication, data encryption, and data integrity
for client/server communications.
Web
Page
Written in a script language called HTML a Web Page contains images
and text that is visible to the visitors of the Web Site. Contained within
the Web Page are instructions that control how the information is displayed.
Control information is hidden from your visitors.
Webmaster
Services
After your Web Site has been published you may wish to make updates
to pages. Havard Associates Ltd offers a Service called Webmaster. This
provides two main features. First, if any problems occur with your Web
Site Havard Associates Ltd will take action on your behalf to resolve
them. Secondly, should you require any updates to your Web Site Havard
Associates Ltd will be available to make your changes and at a reduced
hourly rate.
